The Mercian Regiment
The Mercian Regiment is the Heart of England’s Infantry, recruiting from the five counties which formed the ancient Kingdom of Mercia: Cheshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire, and Worcestershire. We also cover the Black Country and the Wirral and recruit from the Commonwealth.
Formed on 1st September 2007, we have deployed on eight operational deployments, making us one of the most experienced regiments in the British Army.
Comprising two regular and one reserve battalion, we blend the strength and agility of the light infantry role, with the devastating firepower and speed of Armoured Infantry to fearsome effect while deployed.
Alongside returning from Afghanistan, the Regiment has deployed on exercise to Cyprus, Lithuania, Kenya, Canada, Uganda and Poland during the past two years.
We live, work and fight as a proud and close-knit family; achieving success on operations around the world. Mercian soldiers are renowned for their professionalism and courage when deployed, and our reputation marks us out as one of the most effective and forward-looking units in the British Army.
